The fifth-ranked UCLA men's golf team raced to a 10-shot lead after the first 18 holes Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship at the Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.

The Bruins posted a two-over par score of 290 on the first day of competition at one of the country's first collegiate majors. They led second place Alabama, which posted a score of 300 (+12). Texas Tech was in third place at 301 (+13), followed by Georgia State at 304 (+16). North Florida and South Carolina were tied for fifth at 308 (+20).

Individually for the Bruins, freshman Erik Flores fired a four-under par 68 on Sunday and holds a three-stroke advantage atop the leaderboard. Flores eagled the 18th hole (his ninth) and recorded three birdies and a bogey for his tournament-best round.

Sophomore Kevin Chappell was tied for fifth after posting a 73 (+1), and freshman James Lee and sophomore Daniel Im were tied for seventh at 74 (+2). Junior Chris Heintz was tied for 18th after carding a 76 (+4).
