Bruins Roll Past Waves in MPSF Semifinals

The sixth-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team extended its winning streak to six matches with a sweep over No.15 Pacific in Stockton. The Bruins have now won 23 consecutive matches against UOP in the series without a loss.

Saturday, the Bruins won 31-29, 31-29, 30-25 in 90 minutes before 260 fans. UCLA raised its record to 18-12 overall, 10-10 in league play. Pacific fell to 7-19, 5-15.

More importantly, the Bruins moved up to seventh place in the MPSF standings, overtaking UC Santa Barbara, which lost 3-0 at Pepperdine on Saturday. The MPSF seventh place finisher hosts the eighth place finisher in the first round of the conference playoffs.

Junior Steve Klosterman once again led the Bruins' offense, pounding 17 kills (.371) and recording six total blocks, both team leaders. Senior Damien Scott added 15 kills (.448), eight digs and two block assists. Senior Nick Scheftic boasted a hitting line of 8-0-15 (.533) and recorded six total blocks. Defensively, sophomore libero Tony Ker led the Bruins with 10 digs. Freshman setter Matt Wade contributed 39 assists in his seventh straight start.

The Bruins out-blocked the Tigers, 13.0-5.5 and limited them to an attack percentage of .250. UCLA hit .364 and served three aces.

Brian Adamson led UOP with 17 kills, but was limited to a hitting percentage of .225.

Next week UCLA concludes its regular season on the road with matches against UC Santa Barbara (Apr. 12) and Cal State Northridge (Apr. 15).
