UCLA Men's Water Polo to Face USC in NorCal Tournament Semifinals

Palo Alto, Calif. - The No. 3 UCLA men's water polo team advanced to the semifinals of the NorCal Tournament with a 14-4 win against UC Davis (4-3) on Saturday evening after defeating Princeton, 15-2, earlier in the afternoon at Stanford's Belardi Pool. UCLA (3-0) will battle crosstown-rival USC (4-0) on Sunday at Stanford's Avery Stadium Pool. Game time is 12:30 p.m.
UCLA freshman Kevin Kuga and junior Matthew Jacobs led the Bruins offensively with three goals each. The Bruins shutout the Aggies, 4-0, in the first quarter as freshman Scott Swanson and senior Logan Powell registered the game's first two goals, respectively. UCLA led 6-3 after the first half and added four third-quarter goals to give the Bruins a 10-4 cushion to begin the final frame. UC Davis junior Nick Arrigo tallied three goals for the Aggies.
Senior goalkeeper Will Didinger earned his first start of the season and tallied six saves for the Bruins. UC Davis goalkeeper Mike McGee recorded nine stops in the cage.
With both first-day wins, the Bruins advanced to Sunday's semifinal round. UCLA last faced the second-ranked Trojans in NorCal Tournament action on Oct. 3, 2004 - the Bruins won that match, 8-6. In the all-time series, UCLA maintains a 68-57-1 advantage.
The winner of Sunday's semifinal matchup will play in the NorCal Tournament finals against the winner of the Stanford-California game, set to begin at 11:10 a.m. at Avery Stadium Pool.
