The third-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team fell in five games on the road against UC Santa Barbara Wednesday night.

UCSB won 31-33, 27-30, 30-28, 30-27, 15-6 in two hours and 30 minutes in front of 830 fans at Robertson Gym. The victory raised the Gauchos' record to 5-1 overall, 4-0 in MPSF play. The Bruins fell to 2-4, 0-3.

The loss negated a sparkling performance by UCLA senior outside hitter Paul George, who pounded 16 kills and served a career-high six aces while making 10 digs. Freshman Garrett Muagututia led the Bruins with a career-high 22 kills and senior Steve Klosterman added 13 kills.

The Bruins out-blocked the Gauchos 15.5-12.5 and seerved nine aces to their opponent's five.

In Game 5, UCLA hit .062 and fell behind 11-4 after a 6-1 UCSB run.

Senior Evan Patak, the national leader in kills, led UCSB with 31 kills in 70 attempts.

The Bruins continue their season-opening road trip on Friday, Jan. 19 with a league match at Cal State Northridge. UCLA returns home for a six-match home stand beginning Jan. 24 vs. Pepperdine.
