UCLA Defeats Love And Basketball In Exhibition

Los Angeles, Calif. - The UCLA women's basketball team closed out its pre-season schedule with an 84-67 win over Love and Basketball in an exhibition game played Wednesday night in Pauley Pavilion. Sophomore guard Erica Tukiainen led four Bruins in double digits in the contest with 17 points, 15 coming in the first half in which UCLA shot 64.3 percent from the field.
UCLA started fast, connecting on six of its first seven shots from the field, including a trio of three-point shots by Tukiainen, and enjoyed an 18-0 lead with 15:44 on the clock. Love and Basketball misfired on its first 10 shots from the field before recording a free throw with 15:24 remaining for its initial tally. UCLA led by as many as 22 points on several occasions in the first half, including a 47-25 halftime margin.
Love and Basketball, a group of former college players, came out in the second half and sank its first five shots from the field to narrow the gap to 16 points, 51-35, at the 16:59 mark. UCLA built the lead back up to 20 at 74-54 with 6:09 to play. Love and Basketball then used a 13-2 run which included three three-pointers to slice the advantage to 76-67 with 3:22 to go. A steal by Bruin freshman Doreena Campbell led to a layup by fellow freshman Nina Earl, which then triggered an 8-0 UCLA run to end the game.
Senior forward Lindsey Pluimer scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds for UCLA. Earl came off the bench to finish with a total of 13 points on 5-5 shooting from the field. Freshman point guard Darxia Morris was the fourth Bruin in double digits with a total of 11 points. Sophomore center Moniquee Alexander and freshman center Regina Rogers led UCLA with nine rebounds apiece.
UCLA opens the regular season with a game at Cal State Northridge on Wednesday, November 14 at 7 p.m. The Bruin home opener is on Sunday, November 18 at 1 p.m. versus Rice University in Pauley Pavilion.
