USC took a 9-0 lead over the Bruins after the women's hammer throw competition on Friday afternoon at West LA College as the Trojans placed in the top-three spots. UCLA finished fourth and fifth in the competition and did not score any points. USC's Eva Orban won the contest with a mark of 210-0.

Junior Mary Hanley finished fourth with a lifetime-best throw of 153-7 and senior Kiyoko Guillory was fifth with a lifetime-best mark of 131-1.

In the men's competition, UCLA trails USC by just one point after picking up four points in the hammer. The Trojans lead 5-4 after USC's Adam Midles won with a mark of over 228-3.

Sophomore Boldizsar Kocsor threw a season-best of 217-2 to finish second, while senior Andrew Ninow placed third, throwing a lifetime-best of 207-4. Kocsor had a previous season-best of 211-5, while Ninow's previous best was 200-2.

Kocsor now moves to No. 10 in the country and No. 3 in the conference. Ninow moves up to No. 22 in the country and No. 6 in the Pac-10.

The rest of the meet will take place on Saturday beginning at 11:00 am. FSN will televise the meet live from 12:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
