
Creary Wins Heptathlon Crown At Penn Relays With NCAA Qualifying Mark

Senior Keneisha Creary captured the Penn Relays heptathlon title on Thursday with an NCAA provisional score of 5097 points in just the second multi-event competition of her career. That point total ranks 29th in the U.S. this season and ninth all-time in UCLA history.
Creary entered day two of the competition in the lead with a score of 3205 points and never relinquished it after the final three events - the long jump, javelin and 800m. In the long jump, Creary posted a lifetime-best of 18-3.25 (720 pts.) for the second best mark of the day. In the javelin, Creary added another personal-best as she threw a mark of 126-6 (639 pts.), which was third overall. In the final event, the 800m, Creary finished eighth in a time of 2:43.50 (533 pts.) for a second day score of 1892 and a combined two-day score of 5097 points.
In all, Creary tallied lifetime-bests in five of the seven events and a season-best mark in the shot put.
Senior Georgea Richards finished in second-place with a total of 4825 points. Richards won the long jump competition with a season-best jump of 19-2.50 (804 pts.) and threw a season-best of 101-5 in the javelin for the fifth-best throw of the day (494 pts.). She was the top finisher for UCLA in the 800m, placing sixth overall with a time of 2:32.07 (667 pts.) for a second day total of 1949 points.
Freshman Hillary Werth placed seventh overall with a season-best score of 4424 points. Werth was ninth in the long jump with a mark of 14-6.50 (411 pts.) and then won the javelin contest with a mark of 134-2 (684 pts.). She ended the day with a seventh-place run in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:40.98 (562 pts.) for a second day total of 1657 points (also a season-best).
