
Bruins Take First Round Lead in the Desert

UCLA's 15th-ranked men's golf team took the opening round lead at The Prestige at PGA West Sunday and a pair of Bruin freshmen was trailing the leaders by a stroke.
The Bruins fired a first round 280 (-8) and led top-ranked Stanford by two strokes. Vanderbilt was third at 285 (-3) followed by UC Davis at 287 (-1). TCU was in fifth place at 289 (+1).
UCLA freshmen Pedro Figueiredo and Pontus Widegren were tied for third place after posting matching scores of 69 (-3). They trailed the leaders in the clubhouse -- Stanford's Sihwan Kim and TCU's Johan de Beer -- by one shot.
Sophomore Gregor Main was tied for seventh place after carding a two-under par 70 and teammate Alex Shi Yup Kim was 16th after posting an even par 72. Freshman Mario Clemens was tied for 22nd after signing for a 73 (+1).
UCLA individuals Bobby Lange (78) and Beau Schoolcraft (81) were tied for 63rd and 76th, respectively.
