
Bruins Fall in Three to Long Beach State

Ninth-ranked UCLA fell in three games to No. 6 Long Beach State Wednesday night extending its skid to three matches.
Long Beach State won 30-24, 30-25, 31-29 in front of 486 fans in 90 minutes at Pauley Pavilion. The Beach improved to 8-5 overall, 7-3 in league play. The Bruins fell to 7-9, 4-6. The victory gave the 49ers a season sweep against the Bruins.
Redshirt freshman Jack Polales was the only Bruin in double figures Wednesday, converting a career-high of 19 kills (.471) and recording three block assists for 20.5 points. Senior Sean O'Malley added eight kills and four total blocks for 10.5 points. In his first start of the season, junior Jeff Woodley added five kills and four total blocks. Senior D.J. Stromath contributed four kills (.375), an ace and five block assists for 7.5 points.
The Beach boasted three players in double figures: Dean Bittner with 17 kills (.333), and Tommy Pestolesi and Josh Riley each with 11 kills.
The Bruins travel to UC San Diego on Sat., Feb. 28 for a 7 p.m. MPSF match.
