
Bruins Fall in Five to Anteaters

The 11th-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team fell in five games to visiting No.2 UC Irvine Friday night in Pauley Pavilion.
UC Irvine won 30-26, 30-28, 27-30, 29-31, 15-11 in two hours and 30 minutes in front of the UCLA's' largest crowd of the season, 1,298. The Anteaters improved to 16-3 overall, 11-2 in MPSF play. The Bruins fell to 8-11, 4-8. They are 6-3 at home.
The loss overshadowed a fine performance by UCLA freshman Jack Polales, who pounded a career-high of 22 kills (.333). Junior Brett Perrine added 15 kills (.360), two aces and two total blocks for 18.5 points and senior Sean O'Malley contributed 14 kills and a air of blocks. Senior setter Matt Wade recorded 57 assists and three kills, and freshman libero Jamey Ker dug 15 balls.
Freshman Carson Clark and sophomore Jordan DuFault led the Anteaters with 21 kills apiece, pacing an attack that hit .336. Clark aced the Bruins three times and DuFault once.
The Bruins will travel next week to Cal State Northridge (Mar. 11) and UC Santa Barbara (Mar. 13).
