No. 4 Bruins Down Hawai'i, 4-1 in Season Opener

LOS ANGELES - The fourth-ranked UCLA men's tennis team won its season opener at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on Saturday, posting a 4-1 victory over Hawai'i in a first round match that was part of ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Next up for the Bruins is a meeting with No. 17 Pepperdine on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The winner of that match will advance to the ITA National Team Indoors, Feb. 11-14 at the University of Virginia. The Waves beat South Florida, 4-0 in their first round showdown on Saturday.
UCLA started the match strong, taking a pair of quick doubles wins to take a 1-0 lead. In singles, Bruin freshman Maxime Tabatruong showed no signs of nerves in his first dual match for UCLA, easily dispatching of Daniel Llarenas, 6-1, 6-3 at court No. 6.
Hawai'i then cut the lead to 2-1 when Dennis Lajola downed Bruin senior Haythem Abid, 6-3, 6-4 at court No. 1. It was as close as the Warriors would get, however, as Nick Meister (court No. 3) and Amit Inbar (court No. 5) each posted straight-set to give UCLA a 4-1 victory.
When play was suspended, Holden Seguso was down a set and tied at 4-4 in the second set at court No. 2, and Matt Brooklyn was up 3-1 in the second set after winning the first at court No. 4.
ITA Kick-Off Weekend is going on at a number of college campuses across the country.
