Men's Tennis Honors Seniors, Beats Northwestern 4-0
April 12, 2026 | Men's Tennis
LOS ANGELES โ The 24th-ranked UCLA men's tennis team registered a successful home finale Sunday, beating Northwestern 4-0 in Big Ten Conference action at Los Angeles Tennis Center. UCLA recognized senior players Gianluca Ballotta, Will Steinberg and Aadarsh Tripathi during a ceremony after doubles matches concluded.
Ballotta and Tripathi helped claim the doubles point with victories on separate courts. The Bruins (14-6, 8-3 Big Ten) then got singles wins from Andy Nguyen, Emon van Loben Sels and clincher Cassius Chinlund. Northwestern dropped to 15-12 (3-9) with a contest at Illinois left to play in its regular season.
UCLA's new look on the doubles courts proved successful, starting on Court 3. There, frequent partners Ballotta and van Loben Sels dealt Cooper Han/Owen Megargee a 6-2 defeat. It was a first-time tandem that clinched, though, as Tripathi/Bengt Reinhard held off Greyson Casey/Chad Miller on Court 1.
The Bruin lead quickly became 2-0 when Schiffman retired on Court 3, giving Nguyen a victory. A clean sweep of singles first sets followed for UCLA.
No. 24 van Loben Sels picked up his second top-court singles win in three matches, besting Cyrus Mahjoob 6-2, 6-2. The singles victory was van Loben Sels' team-high 20th dating back to individual play.
The fourth point was registered on Court 4, where Chinlund defeated Miller 6-0, 6-3. Chinlund, who now holds an 18-4 singles record (14-3 in dual play), leads the Bruins with five deciding wins.
UCLA finishes out the regular season in the Pacific Northwest. The Bruins open their final regular-season road trip at Oregon Friday, April 17, with first serve at UO's Student Tennis Center scheduled for 3 p.m. PT. A visit to Washington's Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center follows Sunday, April 19 at 12 p.m. PT.
