The 13th-ranked UCLA men's golf team held the first round lead at the 20th annual Mauna Lani Invitational, hosted by Hawaii-Hilo University in Waikoloa, HI.

The Bruins posted a team score of 288 (E) and led Oregon and Washington, which were tied for second place, by three strokes. USC was fourth at 293 (+5), followed by Texas Tech at 296 (+8). Top-ranked Oklahoma State was eighth at 299 (+11) and No.2 Stanford was tied for sixth at 297 (+9).

Individually for the Bruins, four players were among the Top 20 leaders after Wednesday's round. Sophomore Alex Shi Yup Kim was locked in the three-way tie for the lead at two-under par 70. Freshman Pontus Widegren was tied for seventh at even par 72. Freshman Pedro Figueiredo was tied for 12th along with sophomore Gregor Main at 73 (+1). Freshman Bobby Lange was tied for 42nd after posting a first-round score of 76 (+4).

Kim was tied with Nils Floren of Texas Tech and Bobby Hudson of Texas.
