
Bruins Beat Warriors in Four

The fourth-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team won a key road match Thursday, beating Hawaii in four games in Honolulu.
The Bruins won 27-30, 30-25, 30-26, 30-25 in two hours and 33 minutes before 3,221 fans at the Stan Sheriff Center. The victory enabled the Bruins to improve their overall record to 5-4 and 4-3 in MPSF play. Hawaii saw its four-match winning streak end and fell to 6-4, 4-3.
UCLA senior Garrett Muagututia led all players with 21 kills (.432) and 23.5 points. Redshirt sophomore Jeremy Casebeer came off the bench and hammered eight kills in nine attempts without an error and scored 10.0 points. Sophomore Jack Polales had nine kills , four total blocks and 10 digs. Thomas Amberg added eight kills (.538) and four total blocks. Sophomore Nick Vogel slammed seven kills and led UCLA with 11.0 total blocks. Senior setter Kevin Ker scored 6.5 points and added 50 set assists.
As a team the Bruins hit .356 and served seven aces. They won the match at the net, out-blocking the Warriors 16.0-7.5.
Jonas Umlauft and Steven Hunt led Hawaii with 16 and 15 kills, respectively.
The two teams complete the series Friday night at 7 p.m. HST.
