
Bruins Fall in Four to Tritons

Seventh-ranked UCLA suffered its first-ever season sweep to No. 14 UC San Diego Saturday night in La Jolla.
The Tritons won 30-26, 30-25, 32-34, 30-27 in two hours and 17 minutes in front of 669 fans. The loss dropped the Bruins to 15-12 overall and 10-10 in league play. UCSD raised its record to 9-18, 5-15.
In this loss, the Bruins out-hit the Tritons 71 kills to 63 and out-blocked them 7.0-3.0. UCSD was more efficient, hitting better than 41% to UCLA's 35% (a difference of eight hitting errors) and making seven fewer service errors. Both teams recorded three aces.
UCLA senior Garrett Muagututia led all players with 27 kills (.561), followed by 13 (.321) from sophomore Thomas Amberg. Junior Dylan Bowermaster added 10 kills (.450), two aces and a pair of solo blocks for 14 points. Senior setter Kevin Ker recorded 63 assists (.543).
Three players recorded double-digit kills for the Tritons, led by 19 from Frank Fritsch.
The Bruins return home this week to host Stanford (Apr. 16) and Pacific (Apr.17) in their final home matches of the season.
