Tucson, Ariz. - The No. 10 UCLA men's tennis team suffered a 4-3 upset to Arizona on Sunday in a Pac-10 Conference match at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center in Tucson. With the loss, the Bruins fall to 13-6 overall and 3-2 in the Pac-10. The Wildcats, who notch their first-ever win over UCLA, improve to 13-9 and 2-4 in conference play.
After winning the doubles point, Arizona moved out to a 2-0 lead when Borja Malo downed Alex Brigham, 6-3, 6-4 at court No. 6. UCLA, however, would even things up at 2-2 following a pair of straight-set wins by Holden Seguso and Nick Meister at court Nos. 4 and 1, respectively.
Arizona's Jay Goldman, who lost the first set 6-1 to Bruin senior Matt Brooklyn at court No. 2, fought back for a three-set victory to pull the Wildcats within a point of winning the match. Goldman's win set the stage for Ravid Hazi to clinch the win at court No. 5, as his 6-7(8), 6-1, 6-4 victory over Maxime Tabatruong gave Arizona a 4-2 lead and its first-ever win over UCLA.
In the final match of the day, Amit Inbar beat Jason Zafiros, 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 at court No. 2 to give UCLA its third point of the afternoon.
Things don't get any easier for the Bruins next week, as they travel to No. 3 USC on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
