Trent Perez stands in third-place after day one of the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational decathlon competition with a five event total score of 3358 points.

Perez was seventh overall in the 100m with a time of 11.66 (719 points). He then posted a lifetime-best mark in the long jump for the second-best jump of the day (21-6.25/711 pts.) and a lifetime-best throw in the shot put (31-3.75/458 pts.) to place ninth in the event. The sophomore was third in the high jump (6-0/653 pts.) and then ended the day with the fastest time in the 400m, 49.94, for 817 points.

Competition concludes on Friday in the decathlon with the high hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500m. The meet also continues on Friday with open event competition during the day and a distance carnival in the evening.
