The 4th ranked UCLA men's volleyball team bounced back from their loss against Long Beach and defeated the Pepperdine Waves 3-0.
The Bruins improved to 7-2 on the year and are now 2-1 in MPSF play. This is also UCLA's first win against Pepperdine since February 9, 2008 after losing five in a row to the Waves since that time. Game scores were 25-19, 25-20, 25-20.
Junior Kyle Caldwell got his first start of the season at opposite and did not disappoint, leading the team with 14 kills (.591). He also chipped in with 4 total blocks and 6 digs. Freshman Gonzalo Quiroga and junior Thomas Amberg were right behind him with 11 (.474) and 9 kills (.444) respectively. Amberg was also the team leader in total blocks with six.
Setter Alex Scattareggia played a big part in the victory as well with a game-high 39 assists. Libero Tom Hastings added 12 digs on the night which led all players in the match.
Overall, the Bruins hit an astounding .482 as a team while holding the Waves to just .268. Maurice Torres led Pepperdine with 13 kills.
UCLA's next match will be Friday, January 28th, against cross-town rivals USC at 7:00 p.m in Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins lead the overall series 85-37 but the Trojans have taken the last two in the series.
