The UCLA men's volleyball team split its first two matches on the opening day of the 47th annual Santa Barbara Invitational.

The Bruins defeated UC San Diego 3-1 (25-22, 25-12, 23-25, 25-15) in their morning match, but dropped the nightcap to UC Santa Barbara 3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 27-25, 25-23).

Leading the Bruins was junior quick hitter Weston Dunlap, who had 12 kills against UC Santa Barbara. Dunlap also had 4 block assists and hit .400 in the match.

Junior Jack Polales added 11 kills and 4 block assists against the Gauchos, while freshman Gonzalo Quiroga recorded 7 kills in his second match as a Bruin. Senior libero Tom Hastings chipped in with 12 digs.

Cullen Irons and Jeff Menzel led UC Santa Barbara with 18 and 13 kills respectively.

UCLA will play Long Beach State on Saturday at 4 p.m. to decide 3rd place.
