
Bruins Finish Second at Gifford Collegiate Championship

The No. 8 UCLA men's golf team completed its fall season with a second-place finish at the Gifford Collegiate Championship at CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, CA.
The Bruins posted a three-under par round of 352 -- the best of the day -- but fell short by four shots to USC. The Trojans recorded a three-round total of 1,057 (-8) to UCLA's score of 1,061 (-4). Second-ranked Oregon placed third at 1,085 (+20), followed by Virginia at 1,093 (+28) and fifth-place Washington at 1,094 (+29).
Individually for the Bruins, sophomore Patrick Cantlay finished second at 10-under par 203 after playing the final day in a round of 70 (-1). Juniors Pontus Widegren and Pedro Figueiredo also posted scores of 70 (-1). Widegren tied for seventh at 214 (+1) and Figueiredo tied for 10th at 215 (+2). Senior Alex Shi Yup Kim tied for 13th at 216 (+3) following a final round score of 72 (+1) and junior Mario Clemens tied for 23rd at 219 (+6) after posting a score of 70 (-1) on Wednesday. Finally, sophomore Anton Arboleda posted a score of 74 (+3) and tied for 41st at 225 (+12).
Freshmen Matt Pinizzotto (T13, 216, 72), Jay Hwang (T44, 226, 76) and Preston Valder (T44, 226, 76) and junior Bobby Lange (T55, 229, 74) competed as individuals.
USC's Steve Lim won medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 202 (-11) after posting a final round score of 69 (-2).
