UCLA Captures Third Place at Regional Challenge

On a day where no golfer shot a round under par, the No. 2 ranked UCLA women's golf team battled through the tough conditions to take home third place at the Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge.
Cold and rainy conditions made the course very difficult to play on all day as each team struggled to shoot under par. In fact, the lowest score of the day belonged to Arizona State, who only managed to shoot a 294 (+10) for the round. The Bruins posted a final round score of 304 (+20) to give them a tournament score of 887 (+35), putting them three strokes behind winner USC, who posted a score of 884 (+32). The Trojans won by two strokes over second place Arizona State (+34) by shooting a final round 299 (+15).
Individually, freshman Ani Gulugian and sophomore Tiffany Lua finished the tournament tied for third at 220 (+7). Gulugian, competing as an individual, and Lua both shot a final round 76 (+5) on the day. Sophomore Lee Lopez and senior Glory Yang each posted 76 (+5) for their rounds as Lopez finished tied for 7th at 221 (+8) while Yang finished in a tie for 11th at 222 (+9). Junior Brianna Do shot a final round 76 (+5) as well to end up tied for 16th place at 224 (+11). Junior Stephanie Kono posted an 80 (+9) to finish in a tie for 42nd at 234 (+21).
Carlota Ciganda of Arizona State was the winner of the tournament with an overall score of 215 (+2).
The Bruins will be back out on the course on Monday, February 28th at the Bruin Wave Invitational at Robinson Ranch Golf Course in Santa Clarita, CA.
