The No. 2/No. 3 (Golfweek/Golfstat) ranked UCLA women's golf team got off to a very strong start at the PING/ASU Invitational by finishing round one in first place, leading by 5 strokes over second place USC.
The Bruins recorded an overall score of 276 (-12) while the Trojans put up a score of 281 (-7). Texas finished in third place at 286 (-2) while Arizona ended up in 4th at 289 (+1). Stanford rounded out the top five with a score of 290 (+2).
Individually, sophomore Tiffany Lua took the first round lead after shooting a 67 (-5), which matched the lowest round of her career. She currently leads by two shots over a group of golfers that includes sophomore Lee Lopez, who fired a 69 (-3) to finish tied for second place. Freshman Ani Gulugian and junior Stephanie Kono are 3 strokes back of Lua after posting first round scores of 70 (-2) to end up tied for 5th. Kono birdied her last 3 holes to climb up to 5th place. Finally, senior Glory Yang shot a 72 (E) to finish tied for 18th.
