The fourth-ranked UCLA men's golf team finished third at the 66th Western Intercollegiate Sunday at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif.
The Bruins, who had climbed to second place earlier in the day, posted a final round team score of 352 (+2) for a 54-hole total of 1,067 (+17). That score was three shots behind second-place Stanford (1,064, +14) and seven shots back of first-place Texas (1,060, +10). USC finished fourth at 1,089 (+39), followed by Cal at 1,100 (+50).
Individually for UCLA, sophomore Patrick Cantlay tied for second place at 208 (-2) following a final round 68 (-2). That result was Cantlay's best collegiate finish since placing second in November at the Gifford Collegiate Championship. Senior Alex Shi Yup Kim tied for 11th place at 213 (+3), following a third consecutive score of 71 (+1) on Sunday. Sophomore Anton Arboleda rose three spots up the leaderboard following a final round score of 71 (+1) and finished at 215 (+5). Junior Pedro Figueiredo also tied for 17th following a final round score of 69 (-1) on Sunday. Freshman Jay Hwang tied for 30th at 221 (+11) after posting a 77 (+7) and junior Pontus Widegren tied for 36th at 223 (+13) after carding a 73 (+3). Junior Mario Clemens, playing as an individual, tied for 23rd at 219 (+9) following his final round score of 72 (+2).
Stanford's Patrick Rodgers fired a final round 68 (-2) to win medalist honors at 206 (-4).
