Bruins Surge to 14-Shot Lead in Half Moon Bay

The No. 1 ranked UCLA women's golf team strung together perhaps two of the best rounds in a single day in its history on Monday. The Bruins surged to a 14-shot lead in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on the Ocean Course at Half Moon Bay Golf Links.
UCLA posted rounds of 280 (-8) and 283 (-5) for a 36-hole total of 583 (-13). In the first round, all five players recorded rounds of par or better and in the afternoon round three Bruins beat par. On the leaderboard, all five players were among the Top 20 individuals. USC was a distant second place at 577 (+1), followed by San Jose State at 584 (+8). Tied for fourth were Stanford and Washington at 585 (+9).
Freshman Erynne Lee enjoyed a day she will always remember. Ranked third nationally, she proved why with nine birdies and a single bogey in 36 holes. She fired matching rounds of 68 (-4) and built a five-shot lead at 137 (-8) entering Tuesday's final round.
At 141 (-3) in a tie for second place was teammate Tiffany Lua, who posted rounds of 71-70 with six birdies, a bogey and a double-bogey for the day. Senior Brianna Do was tied for fifth at 143 (-1) after carding scores of 70-73, and sophomore Ani Gulugian was tied for seventh at 144 (E) following a pair of 72s. Junior Lee Lopez was tied for 16th at 147 (+3) after posting scores of 71-76.
The final round begins Tuesday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
