The no. 5 ranked UCLA Women's Golf Team were the model of consistency today during the first round of the NCAA East Regional, finishing fourth on the day with a team total of 288(E) at Auburn University Golf Club.
A mere two strokes separated UCLA's scoring leader, senior Lee Lopez, and the Bruins' drop score, shared between senior Tiffany Lua and freshman Louise Ridderstrom. Lopez, tied for 14th individually after day one, shot a 71(-1), finishing just ahead of sophomore Erynne Lee and junior Ani Gulugian, at 72(E) apiece. Lua and Ridderstrom, who by no means performed poorly, came in only one stroke behind at 73(+1) each.
The Bruins will head into the second round of the tourney one stroke ahead of #8 Texas in 5th place at 289(+1), and five strokes behind #20 Tulane and #5 Arkansas at 283(-5), tied for 2nd. #2 Alabama took advantage of a good first day to jump out ahead of the field with a commanding six stroke lead, finishing the day in first with a team score of 277(-11).
The second round will begin tomorrow morning, Friday, May 10th. Tee times for day two will be listed here.
