Women's Soccer Team Shuts Out Pepperdine, 2-0

Jenkins put UCLA ahead at 9:02. Sarah Killion sent through ball to Jenkins from the left side and slotted it past the goalkeeper inside the box from 12 yards out.
"It's always important to try to get a goal in the first five to 10 minutes of the game, and we've been really good about that this year," said UCLA head coach Amanda Cromwell. "Killion played a great through ball to Darian. Things we worked on all week came to fruition on that goal, and Darian put it away again."
The Bruins threatened to increase the lead after the initial goal. Killion on a shot after a corner kick and Richmond on a run up the middle had shots saved, and Caprice Dydasco's curling shot hit the crossbar in the 32nd minute.
UCLA's defense was strong, stopping any scoring opportunities in the first half. Defender Abby Dahlkemper snuffed a scoring threat from forward Lynn Williams in the 30th minute, and Rowland two saves on Williams shots in the 35th and 39th minutes.
Pepperdine was aggressive to start the second half, but Bruin players made big defensive plays to stop the threats. Megan Oyster made a good tackle on Williams to strip her of the ball in the opening minutes, and in the 50th minute, Killion blocked a Williams shot in the box that forced the shot wide.
The Bruins moved ahead 2-0 in the 59th minute on an own goal when a Pepperdine defender kicked the ball into her own net while trying to defend a play created by Annie Alvarado.
Goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland made six saves and picked up her fourth shutout of the season as UCLA improved to 7-1. Pepperdine dropped to 4-3-1.
