October 13, 2014 | Men's Water Polo

LOS ANGELES -- The No. 1 UCLA men's water polo team dropped its first game of the year in the semifinals of the SoCal Tournament on Sunday morning, a 10-6 setback to crosstown rival No. 4 USC at Spieker Aquatics Center.

Senior Cristiano Mirarchi scored the first goal of the game (7:32) to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. After a goal from USC, another senior, Paul Reynolds gave the Bruins a 2-1 edge (6:27). It would be the Bruins' last lead of the game.

The Trojans would score five unanswered goals to build a 6-2 lead.

The Bruins looked to climb back in the game in the second period with goals from junior Danny McClintick (6:32) and sophomore Gordon Marshall (2:03) to trim the lead to 6-4. But USC made another scoring run of four goals to build its largest lead of 10-4.

UCLA managed to shut the Trojans out in the fourth period and received power play goals from sophomores Ryder Roberts (7:25) and Jack Fellner (2:05), providing the final 10-6.

Sophomore Garrett Danner started in goal for the Bruins and played the entire game, making nine saves. McQuin Baron played the entire game for USC and was credited with 12 stops.
