
UCLA Wins Fifth Overall Gifford Collegiate Championship

The Bruins posted a final round team score of 349 (-6) and overcame a three-stroke deficit to win by three shots over rival USC. The Bruins, who won their 23rd tournament under eighth-year Coach Derek Freeman, posted a 54-hole team score of 1050 (-15), while USC finished second at 1053 (-12). Stanford captured third place at one-over par 1066, followed by fourth-place Texas at 1069 (+4). Northwestern placed fifth at 1071 (+6).
Individually, juniors Jake Knapp and Lorens Chan placed second and tied for third, respectively. Knapp fired a final round 69 (-2) and recorded a 54-total of 205 (-8), one stroke behind the winner, Northwestern's Dylan Wu. Chan posted a final round 68 (-3) to finish at 206 (-7). Junior Jonathan Garrick tied for 10th at two-under par 211, following his round of 71 (E). Tied for 21st was senior Preston Valder at 216 (+3) after recording a score of 73 (+2). Senior Manav Shah posted a final round 71 (E) and tied for 28th at 218 (+5), and freshman Brandon Mai carded a second straight 70 (-1) and tied for 34th at 219 (+6).
The remainder of the Bruins' roster competed as individuals. Junior Matt Pinizzotto led this group, placing 27th at four-over par 217 after posting a 77 (+6) in the final round. Senior Jay Hwang tied for 28th at 218 (+5) following a round of 75 (+4). Senior Kyle Pollema fired a career-best 68 (-3) and tied for 34th at 219 (+6). In the final round, Pollema jumped 25 spots up the leader board. Freshman Corey Shaun posted a 73 (+2) and tied for 45th at 221 (+8), and rookie Victor Ponte signed for a 72 (+1) and tied for 56th at 224 (+11).
Team format for the Gifford Collegiate Championship was best five-out-of-six scores.
