Golfers Third after First Round in the Desert

Sophomore All-American Jonathan Garrick was tied for seventh place and UCLA was third after the first round of The Prestige at PGA West Monday.

The Bruins posted a team score of 282 (-2) and trailed first-place Stanford by 13 shots. San Diego State was second at 280 (-4). In fourth place was Oregon at 285 (+1) and Washington and LSU were tied for fifth place at 286 (+2).

Individually for the Bruins, Garrick's 69 (-2) led the team and was tied for seventh place. Senior Anton Arboleda, junior Matt Pinizzotto and sophomore Lorens Chan were tied for 15th after posting scores of even par 71. Junior Jay Hwang was tied for 25th place after carding a score of 72 (+1). Sophomore Jake Knapp, playing as an individual, was tied for 47th place after recording a 74 (+4).

Stanford's Maverick McNealy and Patrick Rodgers were the first round leaders after each fired a score of 65 (-6).
