UCLA Tied for 11th after Opening Round in Tempe

The third-ranked UCLA women's golf team was tied for 11th place after the opening round in the PING/ASU Invitational at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe.

Although the Bruins posted a 4-over par score of 292, they trailed the leaders by just eight shots. Arkansas held the 18-hole lead at 284 (-4), followed by Duke at 286 (-2). Host Arizona State was third at 287 (-1), and Stanford, South Carolina and Arizona were tied for fourth at even par 288.

Individually, senior Erynne Lee led the UCLA five-some with a 1-under par 71 that featured three birdies and two bogeys on her card. Junior Louise Ridderstrom and freshman Lydia Choi were tied for 29th with scores of 73 (+1). Sophomore Bronte Law posted a 75 (+3) and was tied for 53rd, and freshman Erin Choi had the drop score of 76 (+4), tied for 63rd. Also tied with Law was freshman Aliea Clark, who played as an individual.

Duke's Leona Maguire was the first-round leader after firing a 66 (-6).
