STANFORD, Calif. - The eighth-ranked Bruins (7-1) continued play in the Stanford Invitational with a 4-1 win at No. 15 Stanford (6-4) on Saturday morning at the new Stanford Sand Volleyball Stadium. The Bruins improve to 2-0 all-time against the Cardinal.
The UCLA No. 1 doubles pair of Kamila Tan and Zoë Nightingale rallied again on the second day of competition to win a three-set thriller. The Bruin pair defeated Stanford's Lauren Birks and Brittany Howard, 11-21, 21-16, 15-9. The newly formed Bruin pair is now 4-2 on the year.
At #2 doubles, the Bruins' Elise Zappia and Madie Smith won in straight sets over the Cardinal's Madi Bugg and Ivana Vanjak, 25-23, 21-10, to improve to 9-3 on the season.
Julie Consani and Laurel Weaver dropped just their second match of the year and was the only casualty of the day, losing a tight affair to Stanford's Jordan Burgess and Merete Lutz, 23-21, 18-21, 15-13. The Bruin duo is now 6-2 on the year.
At #4 doubles, Karly Drolson and Rachel Inouye again dominated from start to finish, winning easily over Stanford's Kelsey Humphreys and Catherine Raquel, 21-8, 21-14. The Bruin pair is now 7-2 on the year.
The Bruins' Lexi Jasper-Baylin and Ivey Schmitt posted a come-from-behind win in three sets at #5 doubles, defeating Inky Ajanaku and Grace Kennedy, 17-21, 21-16, 16-14.
In an exhibition match, the Bruins' Kendahl Hettick and Anastasia Kunz teamed up to defeat Stanford's Sidney Brown and Petra Grutzik in straight sets, 21-12, 21-12.
