Law and Lee Move Bruins into First Place Tie
April 21, 2015 | Women's Golf
The Bruins posted a team score of 286 (+2), a one-stroke improvement from Monday's round, and climbed into a tie with Oregon at 573 (+5). One shot back was Arizona, which posted the best round of the day (282, -2), at 574 (+6). In fourth place was Washington at 576 (+8), and tied for fifth were USC and host Colorado at 585 (+17).
"I was really happy with the way we were able to finish up as a team, especially our two leaders Bronte and Erynee,” said Head Coach Carrie Forsyth. “They played great today, 3-under and 4-under respectively. Overall, it was a really solid performance and I was happy to see them do well because I feel like this is a course we can play on. It's a difficult course but we are a good ball striking team."
Law and Lee combined for 11 birdies on the day. At one point Lee was leading the tournament at 6-under par, but made a pair of bogeys on the inward nine. Law had five birdies and a bogey for a 67 (-4) and a 1-shot lead over her teammate.
“First of all I got to play with one of my really close friends (Charlotte Thomas) from back home in England, so that was really fun being out there with her,” recalled Law. “For me it was just staying patient. I was hitting the ball pretty well all day. I had a couple of putts that hit the edge, but I just tried to stay patient. There are a lot of good chances out there, and I just capitalized on them at the end.”
Law birdied the 17th and 18th holes to finish 3-under on the inward nine and vault into the lead at 137 (-5). Right behind her was Lee at 4-under 138 following her round of 68 (-3).
Tied for 16th was junior Louise Ridderstrom at 145 (+3) following a score of 75 (+4). Freshman Erin Lee posted a score of 76 (+5) and was tied for 42nd at 153 (+11). Freshman Lydia Choi had the drop score of 80 (+9) and was in 51st place at 15-over 157.
