Golfers Remain in Contention after 36 holes in Indiana

May 16, 2015 | Men's Golf

Junior Jonathan Garrick continued his assault on par and sparked the third-seeded UCLA men's golf team to fourth place after 36 holes at the NCAA Noblesville Regional at the Sagamore Golf Club.

The Bruins (582, +6) hold a three-stroke lead over fifth-place UNLV (585, +9) and trail third place Illinois (579, +3) by three strokes. SMU (573, -3) overtook first round leader Colorado (577 (+1) by posting an even par round of 288 on Friday.

Individually, the Bruins were propelled in large part by Garrick, who fired his second straight sub-70 round – a 4-under par 68 – to take the 36-hole lead at 7-under 137. Junior Jake Knapp also posted an under par score of 70 (-2) and was tied for 21st at 147 (+3). Tied for 25th was senior Matt Pinizzotto at 5-over par 149 following his round of 74 (+2). Junior Lorens Chan posted a 77 (+5) and was tied for 54th at 155 (+11). Senior Manav Shah recorded the drop score of 81 (+9) and was tied for 49th at 153 (+9).

The Sagamore Club is playing to a par of 72 over 7,173 yards this week. After 54 holes of stroke play, the top five teams will advance to the NCAA Men's Golf Championship, May 29-June 3, at Concession GC in Bradenton, FL.
