The Bruins posted a team score of 31-over par 319 – their worst single round of the season – and trailed first-place Stanford by 28 shots. The Cardinal did not finish, but held a 2-stroke lead over Duke, which was in second place at 5-over par 293. Baylor was third at seven-over par, followed by USC at 297 (+9) and fifth-place Arizona at 300 (+12).
Junior Louise Ridderstrom led the Bruins with a score of 76 (+4). She was five-over par on the inward nine before making three straight birdies on holes 15-17. Then, she double-bogeyed the 18th for her final score.
Three UCLA players posted scores in the 80s on Thursday, and third-ranked Bronte Law signed for a score of 79 (+7). Senior Erynne Lee and freshman Lydia Choi each posted scores of 83 (+11), and freshman Erin Choi signed for an 81 (+9).
Stanford's Mariah Stackhouse was the first-round individual leader. Through 12 holes, she was 4-under par. Alabama's Emma Talley was in second place at 3-under.
