
Bruins Slip to 19th after 36-Holes at NCAA Championships

USC took the lead at the halfway point, posting a second round score of 285 (-3) for a 36-hole total of 574 (-2). Illinois was second at 577 (+1), followed by Georgia and LSU in a tie for third at 581 (+5). Tied for fifth place were South Florida and Vanderbilt at 585 (+9). Georgia Tech was seventh at 588 (+12), and San Diego State and TCU were tied for eighth place at 589 (+13).
After Sunday's round, the field will be cut to 15 teams, and following Monday's round, it will be pared to eight for the match play draw. The Bruins, at 22-over par 598 were four shots out of 15th place and nine shots out of eighth. They posted a score of 304 (+16) on Saturday.
Individually, junior Jake Knapp led the team with a score of 74 (+2) and was tied for 22nd place at 145 (+1). Senior Preston Valder was tied for 50th at 149 (+5) after signing for a 75 (+3). Senior Manav Shah was tied for 107th at 154 (+10) after posting a 75 (+3), and junior Lorens Chan was tied for 118th at 155 (+11) after carding a score of 80 (+8). Junior Jonathan Garrick had the drop score of 84 (+12).
SMU's Bryson Dechambeau held the 36-hole lead following his round of 67 (-5) Saturday. At 137 (-7), he held a two-stroke lead over Thomas Detry of Illinois.
