REDLANDS, Calif., -- The top-ranked UCLA Bruins improved to 5-0 on the year with a 16-4 win over No. 18 Whittier (4-3) at the Inland Empire Classic on Sunday afternoon at the Thompson Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Redlands.

With all of the Bruin starters getting a day of rest, UCLA's reserves took to leading roles. Freshman Spencer Farrar responded with a career-high four goals as six Bruins scored multiple goals.

The Bruins jumped out to a 4-0 advantage and were never threatened. UCLA scored the first four goals before allowing a power play score at the end of the first period to lead 4-1 at the end of one. UCLA received two goals from Farrar in the opening stanza, both on counter attacks (6:24, 1:14). The Bruins also got one goal each from sophomores Jack Grover (4:29) and Max Irving (1:30).

UCLA put up five goals in the second period, and allowed one Poet score to build a 9-2 lead by halftime. In the second, the Bruins received two more goals from Farrar (6:48, 4:47) and two power play scores from redshirt freshman David Stiling (3:48, 2:35). Junior Joey Fuentes got in on the scoring with a goal from the front court (6:01).

The Bruins won a low-scoring third period, 3-1, to build a 12-3 lead by the end of the quarter. UCLA received goals from Grover (7:16), Irving (5:23) and redshirt freshman Austin Rone (2:20).

UCLA outscored Whittier 4-1 in the fourth to provide the 16-4 final. Fuentes completed a hat trick with two more scores in the final frame (6:17, 0:32) while redshirt freshman Corbett Kruse added two scores in the fourth (2:45, 1:13), a career-high. UCLA improved to 4-0 all-time against Whittier.

Sophomore Aleksandar Ruzic played the third period, registering two saves while allowing one goal. Sophomore Elliot Ordway played the fourth quarter and tallied five saves while surrendering one goal.
