REDLANDS, Calif., -- The top-ranked UCLA Bruins improved to 4-0 on the year with an 18-3 win over Redlands (2-5) at the Inland Empire Classic on Sunday morning at the Thompson Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Redlands.

With all of the Bruin starters getting a day of rest, UCLA's reserves took to leading roles. Sophomore Max Irving responded with a career-high four goals, single-handedly outscoring the opposition.

The Bruins jumped out to an 8-0 advantage and were never threatened. UCLA led 4-0 at the end of the first period, receiving one goal each from Irving (6:10), sophomore James Robinson (4:26), sophomore Alex Roelse (3:33) and redshirt freshman Warren Snyder (2:26).

UCLA put up five goals in the second period, but allowed a Bulldog score to build a 9-1 lead by halftime. In the second, the Bruins received goals from junior Joey Fuentes (7:31), freshman Max Staresinic (7:12), Roelse (6:23), Robinson (4:07) and Irving (3:17).

The Bulldogs managed to score twice in the third, but the Bruins put up another four-spot to build a double-digit lead at 13-3 by the end of the period. UCLA received goals from redshirt freshman Austin Rone (7:37), freshman Spencer Farrar (5:32), redshirt freshman Corbett Kruse with his first career score (3:11) and Staresinic (1:16).

The Bruins blanked the Bulldogs in the fourth and added five more goals in the frame to provide the 18-3 final. Irving completed his hat trick and added a fourth (7:32, 6:04) to push the lead to 15-3. Then redshirt freshman Kent Inoue (2:27) and junior Patrick Woepse (1:33) got in on the scoring act to give UCLA 11 different players with at least one goal. Fuentes ended the scoring with his second goal, this one on a penalty shot (0:38). UCLA improved to 7-0 all-time against Redlands.

Freshman Alex Wolf got the start and played the first period, tallying one save while pitching a shutout. Sophomore Aleksandar Ruzic played the second and third periods, registering seven saves while allowing three goals. Sophomore Elliot Ordway saw the first action of his career, playing the fourth quarter and tallying four saves, including one on a penalty shot. He pitched a shutout in the fourth and was credited with one steal.

UCLA went 4-for-6 on power plays while Redlands went 2-for-8. The Bruins were 1-for-1 on penalty shots while Redlands went 0-for-1.
