
No. 1 UCLA Defeats Concordia 20-4

LA JOLLA, Calif., -- The top-ranked UCLA Bruins improved to 2-0 with a 20-4 win over Concordia (1-2) at the Triton Invitational on Sunday morning at Canyonview Aquatic Center.
Senior Anthony Daboub had a game-high three goals as 13 different Bruins scored.
Daboub scored the first goal of the game on a counter attack at the 7:22 mark of the first period. Sophomore Jack Grover put UCLA up 2-0 with a power play goal (6:33) and then Daboub added his second on another counter to push the lead to 3-0 (5:07). The Eagles got their first goal from Spencer Hosch (4:41) to cut the lead to 3-1. But UCLA responded with three straight power play goals to end the first period with a 6-1 advantage. Junior Gordon Marshall struck first (3:07), followed by junior Joey Fuentes (1:45) and junior Ryder Roberts (1:12).
In the second quarter, UCLA blanked Concordia and added four more goals to take a 10-1 lead into the break. The Bruins got counter attack goals from sophomore Max Irving (5:14) and redshirt freshman David Stiling (4:28) to push the lead to 8-1. After Marshall scored his second of the match, this one from two meters (1:40), sophomore James Robinson scored on a counter (0:23) to end the scoring in the second period.
Junior Patrick Fellner would score his first and the Bruins' eighth straight on a counter attack to push the lead to 11-1 with 7:30 left in the third period. Concordia scored two consecutive goals to trim the lead to 11-3 (6:42, 4:18), but UCLA answered with three goals to end the period. Daboub completed his hat trick with a goal from the front court (4:10). Senior Daniel McClintick got in on the scoring with a goal from the front court (1:05) and junior Chancellor Ramirez added a power play goal (0:15) to put UCLA up 14-3 heading into the fourth.
The Bruins also won the fourth period by a 6-1 score to provide the 20-4 final. Freshman Spencer Farrar added two counter attack goals (7:03, 1:09) in the final period. Irving added his second score of the match on a counter (5:32) as did Fuentes (3:56). Stiling scored his second on a 6-on-5 opportunity (3:05) and junior Alec Zwaneveld scored from two meters (2:18) as the Bruins improved to 7-0 all-time against Concordia.
Junior Garrett Danner started in goal for UCLA and played the first two periods, allowing one goal while making five saves and tallying two assists and two steals. Freshman Alex Wolf played the second half in the cage, registering six stops while allowing three goals and registering two assists and two steals.
UCLA went 6-for-10 on power plays while Concordia went 2-for-5. Neither team attempted a penalty shot.
