LOS ANGELES -- No. 5 UCLA (10-4) rallied for a 3-2 win over previously undefeated No. 1 Pepperdine (11-1) on Wednesday afternoon at Sunset Canyon Beach Courts. It was UCLA's first-ever win over the Waves (1-3 all-time) and over a Top 3 team.
The Waves won the first point on court five when Samantha Cash and Sarah Seiber defeated junior Laurel Weaver and senior Julie Consani in straight sets, 21-17, 21-17.
Pepperdine went up 2-0 on court four after Maddy Roh and Anika Wilson outlasted UCLA's sophomore Reily Buechler and freshman Zana Muno in three sets, 21-18, 18-21, 20-18.
The Bruins got their first point of the match on court two when UCLA's duo of senior Kamila Tan and sophomore Ivey Schmitt defeated the Pepperdine tandem of Kaity Bailey and Delaney Knudsen in straight sets, 24-22, 21-14.
UCLA tied it at 2-2 on court three as the duo of sophomore Elise Zappia and freshman Izzy Carey defeated Skylar Caputo and Corinne Quiggle in come-from-behind fashion, 17-21, 21-19, 15-13.
