No. 4 UCLA Blanks UCSD, 7-0

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The fourth-ranked UCLA men's tennis team blanked UC San Diego on Thursday afternoon at the Sunset Canyon Recreation Tennis Courts. With the win, the Bruins improve to 19-2 on the season.
UCLA made quick work of UC San Diego in doubles, clinching the point on courts 1 and 3. Maxime Cressy and Austin Rapp downed Edvin Larsson and Richard Han, 6-2, on court 3 to get things started. Shortly after, Karue Sell and Joseph Di Giulio edged Alexandre Miaule and Horea Porutiu, 6-4, on court 1 to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead.

Continuing this momentum in singles play, the Bruins swept the first sets. Rapp was the first to register a singles win, downing Han in straights. Cressy followed suit on court 6 with a straight-set win of his own over Riku Hashiyada. UCLA led 3-0 and had commanding second-set leads in three of the four remaining matches.
No. 58 Gage Brymer sealed the deal for the Bruins on court 2 when he coasted past Miaule, 6-2, 6-4.

The remaining matches played out, with Logan Staggs and Di Giulio quickly defeating their Triton opponents in straights. On court 1, No. 45 Martin Redlicki battled back and forth in a super tiebreaker after dropping the second set to UCSD's Eric Tseng. Redlicki saved a match point to knot the score at 11-11, then went on to win two straight points and take the match.

Next up, the Bruins travel crosstown for a doubleheader with the women's tennis team against the USC Trojans. Action begins on Sunday with doubles at 12:30 pm PDT. Men's singles kicks off at 1:30 pm, followed by women's singles. Singles play will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.
