UCLA Track Starts Off Busy Weekend

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA track and field team opened the Legends Invitational and posted some impressive times in the Legends Distance Carnival on Friday at Drake Stadium.

The Bruins saved the best for last on Friday as UCLA sported the top three finishers in the 10,000m. Myles Smith clocked nearly a minute personal best to win the race in a time of 29:36.28. Senior Sergey Sushchikh was second at 29:52.71 while Richard Ho was third with a new lifetime best of 30:15.97.

Freshman Stamatia Scarvelis got the weekend started for UCLA by placing second in the hammer throw with a mark of 194-0.

In her first collegiate 800m race freshman Julia Rizk clocked a 2:09.48 to finish fourth overall. Maddi Moore placed 10th also in her first 800m with a time of 2:14.53.

In the men's mile senior Ferdinand Edman ran a personal best with a time of 4:03.37. Nick Hartle also clocked a personal best with a time of 4:05.60 to place fifth.

Despite a rough last water jump senior Nolan Dickson ran over a 10-second lifetime best in the steeple to place third overall with a time of 9:05.35.

Day two of the Legends Invitational will begin at 10 a.m. with the men's javelin. The collegiate action on the track will start with the women's 4x100m relay at 2:05 p.m.
