LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Led by Mackenzie Barr and Kelsey O'Brien's combined seven goals, the second-ranked UCLA women's water polo team coasted to a 13-6 victory over No. 11 San Jose State on Saturday afternoon.  With the win, the Bruins improve to 18-2 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.

UCLA came out firing on all cylinders, netting four in the first quarter and seven before the half.  Barr opened scoring for the Bruins with back-to-back goals, the second of which she placed top corner from cross cage.  SJSU's Rae Lekness registered the Spartans' lone goal of the quarter between Barr's two points.  O'Brien then tallied her first of the game from close range off an assist from Alexa Tielmann to put the Bruins up 3-1.  To close out the quarter, Ashley Zwirner capitalized on a power play, giving UCLA a 4-1 lead.

In the second quarter, three more Bruins added points to the board.  First up, Charlotte Pratt netted a six-on-five goal from up top to extend the lead to 5-1.  Lizette Rozeboom then fired in the skip shot with two minutes remaining in the half.  With 40 seconds on the clock, Devin Grab drew a penalty on SJSU's Cara Robinson and then converted the penalty to give the Bruins a 7-3 lead at the half.

UCLA carried this momentum into the second half, netting three goals in each quarter.  The Bruins posted three unanswered goals to start the third.  O'Brien got the action started, while India Forster and Barr followed suit to give the Bruins a 10-3 lead.  With two minutes to go, Alexis Angermund was called for the exclusion.  SJSU's Lekness converted the power play, cutting the deficit to six.

In the final eight minutes, the teams traded goal for goal to close out the game.  O'Brien and Aubrie Monahan both posted six-on-five goals, and Barr netted her fourth of the game with 1:37 remaining.  For the Spartans, Robinson and Donia Momen each tallied a goal.  As time expired, UCLA was on top, 13-6.

Defensively, the Bruins dominated the pool as well.  The squad registered eight steals and Carlee Kapana posted 13 saves in the cage, just two shy of her season-high 15.

Next up, the Bruins host SJSU, Pomona-Pitzer, and Redlands for the Bruin Invitational.  UCLA takes the pool at 11 am PDT and 4:15 pm PDT.
