PRINCETON, N.J.ย --ย The top-ranked UCLA Bruins improved to 7-0 on the year with aย 20-8 victory over Johns Hopkins in the second game of the Princeton Invitationalย on Saturday afternoon at Denunzio Pool. The victory marked UCLA's 40th-straight win,ย which extends the second-longest winning streak in school history. The all-time record is 50, which was established from 1964-68.

Junior Max Irving and senior Patrick Woepseย led the Bruins with hat tricks.ย Junior Aleksandar Ruzic played the first three periodsย in the cage for the Bruins, registering four saves,ย two assists and one steal while allowing four goals. UCLA was credited with allowing four team goals in the fourth quarter as the Bruins pulled their goalie to work on team defense without a goalie.

Irving opened the scoring in the first with a goal from the front court (6:42). Sophomore David Stiling scored his first goal of the year to put the Bruins up 2-0 (4:38). Senior Patrick Woepse scored from two meters (3:51) as UCLA led 3-0. Giorgio Cico scored back-to-back goals for Johns Hopkins (2:01 and 1:32) to cut the lead to 3-2. But senior Alec Zwaneveld gave the Bruins a 4-2 lead at the end of the first with a goal from set with 0:11 on the clock.

Junior Matt Farmer opened the scoring in the second with a goal from two meters (7:40) to push the lead to 5-2. UCLA got three goals in a span of a minute by three different Bruins and the rout was on. Irving scored his second on a power play (6:51), senior Patrick Fellner added a strike from the front court (6:09) and junior Jack Grover scored on a counter (5:48) to make it 8-2. Grover would score his second on a power play (3:58) and Woepse netted his second from set (0:41) to make it seven unanswered goals. Cico completed a hat trick for Johns Hopkins with 0:19 left to cut the lead to 10-3 by halftime.

Zwaneveld netted his second of the game on a power play to extend the lead to 11-3 (4:49) to open the scoring in the third. Junior James Robinson made it 12-3 with a counter score (4:20) and back-to-back power play scores from Irving (1:57, hat trick) and freshman Jake Simpsonย (1:19), made it 14-3. Andres White scored a power play goal for Johns Hopkins (1:04) to end the scoring in the third with UCLA leading 14-4.

The Bruins opened the fourth with three straight goals, starting with power play goals from senior Joey Fuentes (7:27) and sophomore Warren Snyder (6:17). Farmer scored his second goal on a counter (3:29) to make it 17-4. A nice drive and finish by Stiling, his second of the game (2:58), a power play goal by Woepse (2:02, hat trick) and a front court strike from sophomore Austin Rone (0:33) finished off the scoring for UCLA.
