SAN DIEGO, Calif. --ย The top-ranked UCLA Bruins continued their winning ways with a 14-4 victory over No. 17 Cal Baptist in the final game of the Triton Invitationalย on Saturday afternoon at Canyonview Aquatic Center. The victory was UCLA's 35th-straight win,ย which extends the second-longest winning streak in school history. The all-time record is 50, which was established from 1964-68.
Ten different Bruins scored in the game, led by Senior Ryder Roberts four goals. Sophomore Warren Snyder was the only other Bruin to score multiple goals in the game, finishing with two. Senior goalkeeper Garrett Danner played in goal in the first half and registered four saves while allowing two goals. Junior Aleksandar Ruzic was in the cage for UCLA in second half, picking up three stops while also allowing two goals.
The Bruins pitched a shutout in the first quarter while getting one goal each from Junior Matt Farmer (2:36), Roberts (1:02, penalty) and senior Alec Zwaneveld (0:28).
Senior Max Irving scored his only goal on a penalty shot to open the scoring in the second period (5:32) to put the Bruins up 4-0. Tanner Shore got Cal Baptist on the board with a goal at full strength (5:09). Senior Patrick Woepse netted a power play goal to extend the lead to 5-1 (4:37). Freshman James Vlachonassios scored his first collegiate goal to put UCLA up 6-1 at the 3:38 mark of the second period. Thomas Henline scored for CBU (1:14) to cut it to 6-2, but the Bruins got another goal from Roberts (0:16) to head into the break with a 7-2 advantage.
The Bruins won a defensive-minded third period, 2-1, getting goals from Roberts (1:45, hat trick) and sophomore Austin Rone (0:53, power play). UCLA held a 9-3 lead heading into the fourth.
Roberts opened the scoring in the final period (5:54) and Snyder scored his first of the game (5:15) to push the lead to 11-3. Freshman Jake Simpson would make it five unanswered goals (4:55) to extend the lead to 12-3. After a goal by Luke Schuler for CBU (3:17), UCLA ended the game with two more goals. Snyder scored his second goal (1:24) and sophomore Kent Inoue added the final score (0:19) to provide the 14-4 final.
The Bruins return to action tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. when they face Redlands in the first game of the UCLA Invitational at Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, Calif.
