LOS ANGELESย --ย Second-ranked UCLA scored eight goals in the first quarter and never looked back, downing No. 17 Cal Baptistย 20-9 on Friday night at Dirks Pool at Spiekerย Aquatics Center. The Bruins improved to 14-1 on the year and 9-0 all-time against the Lancers (16-9).

The Bruins were led by junior Austin Rone and junior Kent Inoue, who each had a career-high four goals on the night. Redshirt sophomore Raphael Raede also had the first hat trick of his career. Senior goalkeeper Aleksandar Ruzicย started in the cage and played the first three quarters, recording seven saves while allowing seven goals. Redshirtย sophomore Jonathan Van De Velde played the fourth quarter and was credited with three stops while surrendering two scores.

Freshman Felix Brozyna-Vilimย drew a penalty shot on the game's first possession and senior Max Irving converted the penalty shot (7:41) to get the Bruins on the board first. Irving made it 2-0 with a counter score at the 5:24 mark. After Kyle Christian scored a goal from the front court for the Lancers (5:03) to cut it to 2-1, the Bruins reeled off four straight goals. Roneย scored on a counter (3:54), senior Jack Grover added a strike from the front court (3:01), freshman Chasen Travisano scored on a nice drive (1:57) and Roneย scored his second (1:17) from the front court to push the lead to 6-1. After another goal from the front court by CBU'sย Christian (0:53) cut the lead to 6-2, Roneย completed his hat trick (0:33) with another score from the front court to make it 7-2. Redshirtย sophomore Eric Goldenbergย scored from distance as the buzzer sounded to give UCLA an 8-2 lead at the end of one.

Inoue opened the scoring in the second quarter with back-to-back goals from the front court (7:34 and 6:47) to push the lead to 10-2. Tanner Shore cut the lead to 10-3 with a score from the front court (1:58). But Travisano netted his second of the game from the front court (0:33) to extend the lead to 11-3. Christian completed his hat trick with a power play goal (0:03) to end the scoring with the Bruins holding an 11-4 lead at the half.

UCLA scored the first four goals of the third period, beginning with a goal at set from Raedeย (7:33). Inoue completed his hat trick with a goal from the front court (6:41) and then senior James Robinson scored on a counter (3:54). Inoue ended the scoring run with his fourth goal (3:16) to make it 15-4. Christian scored his fourth of the game for CBU after an ordinary foul (2:48) and then Dominick Nevarez struck from the front court (2:07) to cut the lead to 15-6. Jonny Lotero added a goal from two meters (1:15) to put the Lancers' scoring run to three goals, cutting the Bruins' lead to 15-7. Roneย netted his fourth of the game with a front court score (0:55) to end the scoring in the third with UCLA leading 16-7.

The Bruins reeled off three straight goals to open the fourth with Raedeย getting back-to-back scores (7:40 and 6:19) and Goldenbergย striking from the front court (4:38) to push the lead to 19-7. Kyle Rasmussen scored from the front court for CBU (2:28) and then sophomore James Vlachonassios scored the Bruins' only power play goal (1:05) to extend the lead to 20-8. Nevarezย provided the 20-9 final with a counter attack goal (0:13) for CBU.

The Bruins return to action on Saturday, Oct. 14 in a non-conference game at home vs. No. 7 Long Beach Stateย at 7:00 p.m. at Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center.
