UCLA Falls to San Diego on the Road, 3-1

October 22, 2017 | Men's Soccer

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Blayne Martinez scored his second goal of the season as the UCLA men's soccer team fell to San Diego, 3-1, on Sunday from Torero Stadium. UCLA is now 6-6-1 overall on the season.

UCLA held an 11-9 advantage in shots over San Diego (8-3-2), but the Toreros led 8-4 in shots on goal and 8-7 in corner kicks.

USD scored the first goal of the game just seconds before the end of the first half. The Toreros earned a corner kick and the service fell to the foot of Aaron Frey who collected the ball, turned and fired a shot to the upper corner of the goal.

San Diego added to its lead early in the second half as Djordje Babic finished a Miguel Berry pass to the right side of the net. USD made the score 3-0 on an UCLA own goal in the 59th minute.

UCLA got on the board in the final minutes of the game when Martinez collected a rebound off a Robert Knights shot and found the back of the net from six yards out.

The Bruins will return to Drake Stadium next week for the final two home games of the regular season as part of a pair of doubleheaders with the women's team. Thursday's match is set for 4:30 p.m. PT against Oregon State, followed by facing Washington at 5 p.m. PT on Sunday for Senior Day.
