The Bruins were led byย freshman Ashworth Molthenย who scored a game-high three goals.ย Redshirtย junior Alex Wolf started in the cage and went the distance, recording 12 saves while allowing nine goals.
Jordan Hoover opened the scoring in the game with a goal from at two meters (6:00) for the Golden Bears. Sophomore Nicolas Saveljicย tied the game at 1-1 with a power play strike (1:59). Nikosย Delagrammatikasย gave the Golden Bears a 2-1 lead (0:28) on a rebound score on a power play after the Bruins got a field block. That ended the scoring in the first period.
Spencer Farrar scored on a counter for Cal (6:47) to open the scoring in the second period giving Cal a 3-1 lead. Saveljic scored his second of the game on a perfect lob shot (4:26) to cut the lead to 3-2. Delagrammatikasย then answered with his second score of the game from the front court (2:35) to push the lead to 4-2. Safakย Simsek scored his first of the game for the Golden Bears (1:51) to push the lead to 5-2. Then freshman Ashworth Molthenย scored on a power play (1:25) to trim the lead to 5-3. That score would hold up at the break.
Molthenย opened the scoring in the third with his second goal of the game (6:04) on a power play to cut the lead to 5-4. But Vassilis Tzavaras answered with a power play goal (5:30) to push the lead to 6-4. Johnny Hooper then scored his first of the game for Cal (2:25) to make it a three-goal game. The Golden Bears would take a 7-4 lead into the fourth period.
Sophomore Felix Brozyna-Vilimย opened the scoring in the fourth quarter (5:14) with a powerful goal at set to cut the lead to 7-5. Senior Warren Snyderย scored his first of the game on a skip shot (2:13) to cut the lead to 7-6. UCLA had a chance to tie the game, but the Bruins turned the ball over and then Hooper scored his second of the game on a penalty shot (0:27) to extend the lead to 8-6. Molthenย answered immediately with a goal (0:18) to complete a hat trick. Marko Valecic scored a cheap goal with one second remaining to provide the 9-7 final.
The Bruins return to action on Saturday, Nov. 3 when they host No. 2 Stanford on "Senior Day" at 3:30 p.m. PT at Dirks Pool at Spiekerย Aquatics Center.
