Bruins, Yoshihara Tie for Second in San Diego

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - The 21st-ranked Bruins finished in a tie for second at The Farms Invitational at The Farms Golf Club, while sophomore Hidetoshi Yoshihara also tied for second in the individual race.
UCLA completed its second round on Tuesday morning after Monday's play was suspended by darkness, posting a 9-over 297 to sit six strokes back of San Francisco entering the final round. The Bruins would be 11 shots better in their third trip around The Farms, shooting a 2-under 286, but would fall one shot back of USF. UCLA's final score was 8-over 872.
Yoshihara finished one shot behind Santa Clara's Matthew McCarty, recording a 3-under 213. After wrapping up a 1-under 71 (four birdies, three bogeys) in the morning, Yoshihara posted four birdies on #3, #5, #8 and #18 and two bogeys in his final-round, 2-under 70. Junior Cole Madey tied for 12th (+3, 219). He shot a 1-under 71 (four birdies, three bogeys) in his second round and a 2-over 74 in his final round (four birdies, four bogeys, one double).
Freshman Devon Bling battled back from a second-round 77 (+5), in which he made two birdies, three bogeys and two doubles, to post an even-par 72 in his final round on four birdies and four bogeys. He finished in a tie for 17th (+4, 220). Senior Tyler Collier tied for 20th (+5, 221), finishing up a second-round, 7-over 79 (two birdies, five bogeys, two doubles) in the morning before closing with a 2-under 70 in his final round. He produced six birdies, two bogeys and a double. Junior Patrick Murphy tied for 49th (+18, 234), shooting a 6-over 78 (one birdie, three bogeys, two doubles) in round two and a 10-over 82 (three birdies, five bogeys, four doubles) in round three.
On the individual side, freshman Eddy Lai tied for 22nd (+6, 222), bouncing back from an 8-over 80 (five bogeys, one triple) in his second round with an even-par 72 (six birdies, three bogeys, one triple) in his final round. Junior Jack Ireland tied for 25th (+7, 223), posting a second-round, 5-over 77 (four birdies, four bogeys, one double, one triple) and a third-round, 3-over 75 (four birdies, five bogeys and a double). Junior Phil Delisi was 38th (+13, 229), making an eagle in round two to go with one birdie and six bogeys in a 3-over 75. He would close with a 3-over 75 on a pair of birdies and five bogeys. Sophomore Harrison Mahon tied for 49th (+18, 234), shooting a 9-over 81 (five bogeys, two doubles) in round two and a 5-over 77 (two birdies, three bogeys and two doubles) in round three.
The Bruins have a quick turnaround with the University of Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate coming up this weekend (Feb. 16-18) at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
