The Bruins won their 2018 home opener by defeating No. 3 Hawai'i, 4-1, and No. 17 LMU, 5-0.

LOS ANGELESย -- No. 4 UCLA (6-3) pulled off a small upset in its 2018 home opener, knocking off No. 3 Hawai'i (3-2), 4-1, on Thursday at Sunset Canyon Beach Volleyball Courts.
Junior Zana Muno and sophomoreย Savvy Simoย got things started on court five with a straight-set win over Hawai'i's Paige Dreeuwsย and Hannah Zalopany, 21-9, 21-15.
Freshman Megan Muret and junior Izzy Carey made it 2-0ย with a tight straight-set win on court four over Ari Homayun and Amy Ozee, 21-19, 21-18.
UCLA junior Sarah Sponcil and sophomore Lily Justine secured the dual victory on court two when they beat Rainbow Wahine's Emily Maglio and Kai'iwi, 21-17, 21-18.
The Bruins' junior pair of Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara put UCLA up 4-0 with a three-set come-from-behind thriller over Laurel Weaver and Carly Kan, 16-21, 21-15, 15-11.
Morgan Martin and Lea Monkhouseย also did the same on court three, rallying for a three-setย win over UCLA's senior Elise Zappia and sophomore Madi Yeomans, 15-21, 21-11, 15-12.

UCLA (7-4) completed the day with its second 5-0 sweep of the season, defeating No. 17 Loyola Marymount (4-4).
UCLA took a 1-0 lead on court five after Bruin freshmanย Megan Muret and junior Izzy Carey defeated the Lions' Bozenaย Culo and Emma Doudย in straight sets, 21-15, 21-14.
The Bruins took a 2-0 lead on court four as junior Zana Muno and sophomore Savvy Simoย took down LMU's Veronica Nederend and Maddieย Leiphardtย in straight sets, 21-16, 22-20.
UCLA clinched the dual victory on courtย two when juniorย Sarah Sponcil and sophomore Lily Justine defeated Loyola Marymount's Sara Kovac and Jessie Prichardย in straight sets, 21-12, 21-14.
On court one, UCLA's Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamaraย defeated LMU'sย Savannah Slattery and McKaylaย Ferris in convincing fashion, 21-8, 21-16.
The Bruins completed the sweep on court three as senior Elise Zappia and sophomore Madi Yeomansย defeated the Lions' Chloe Reinig and Kekaiย Whitfordย in two lopsidedย sets, 21-8, 21-13.
The Bruins now turn their attention to hosting the second annual East Meets West Challenge on Saturday and Sunday, March 10-11. Admission is free!ย UCLA will open with No. 9 LSU at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 10 at Manhattan Beach Pier in Manhattan Beach, Calif. UCLA will also face No. 13 Florida International on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
