EL MACERO, Calif. - The 24th-ranked Bruins are in second place after 18 holes at the El Macero Classic, shooting an 8-over 296 on Friday at the El Macero Country Club. UCLA is five shots back of first-place Nevada (+3, 291).
Senior Tyler Collier is in a three-way tie for third after an even-par 72 in round one. He made a pair of birdies on the second and eighth holes, adding a pair of bogeys. Collier is three shots back of Nevada's Sam Meek (-3, 69).
Junior Jack Ireland and freshman Hidetoshi Yoshihara are tied for 10th, each posting 2-over 74s. Ireland, playing as an individual, made four birdies on #11, #13, #18 and #2, one bogey, one double and one triple. Yoshihara produced a pair of birdies on #9 and #15 and four bogeys.
Junior Cole Madey and freshmen Devon Bling and Eddy Lai each shot 3-over 75s and are tied for 19th. Madey had a couple of birdies on #10 and #15, three bogeys and a double, Bling had two birdies on #8 and #15 and five bogeys and Lai recorded two birdies on #2 and #18 to go with five bogeys. Junior Patrick Murphy, playing as an individual, is tied for 26th after a 4-over 76. He made four birdies, with all of them coming in a six-hole stretch (#15, #17, #18 and #2), adding eight bogeys.
